CSA Week 16: What a Season!

Hello All,

And just like that, the final week of CSA is upon us. The season has been beautiful and we have enjoyed sharing the harvest with you each week. Our Farm Store will remain open through the end of October so be sure to stop by once CSA ends to stock up on your weekly veggies and groceries.

These past few days have really begun to feel like fall, with the tips of the trees beginning to turn bright reds and oranges. We are grateful for the rain over the weekend that helped our rye cover crop germinate and gave the fall crops a small drink. It is always miraculous how fast the CSA season goes by. A blur of greens and juicy tomatoes and many bins of lettuce. We will miss the weekly routine of seeing all of your faces and assembling the bounty to be picked up. I do have to be honest though, we are also excited for a new routine; to work on longer term projects and put the farm to rest.

Big thanks to each of you for your support and enthusiasm for our farm and growth. We hope to see you on the farm in October and please reach out with any questions, we love hearing from you all. Enjoy the bounty of the final week, we grew our first ginger and are excited for you all to try it!

What's in my share this week?

This week may include:

Kale - green and red curly. Great stir fried, as a kale salad or in soups.

Swiss Chard - rainbow chard best sautéed with oil, soy sauce and sesame seeds.

Leaf Lettuce - a mix of red and green flat and curly, washed, bagged and ready to salad.

Gold Beets - sweet and delicious roasted or in soup.

Winter Squash - roasted, in soups, it is the season for winter squash. We have delicata, butternut and some spaghetti squash.

Ginger - our first experiment with ginger and it looks good! Use in soups, sauces or drinks. This website has some good recipe ideas for ginger.

Cherry Tomatoes - a mix of gold, red and peach. Tastes like summer!

Full Size Tomatoes - yellow and orange striped, purple and classic red.

Onions - red and yellow. The base of so many recipes.

Garlic - a staple.

Leeks - delicious and big. Pairs well with celeriac and potatoes in soup.

Brussels Sprouts - every year we grow brussels and the aphids get to them before we can. But they are still delicious. We rinsed them off for you but you might need to again, just a little extra protein! I like to roast with oil, salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder.

Celeriac - tasty celery root. Adds flavor to soups or can be eaten raw.

Potatoes - white fingerling. Roast them up and enjoy!
